Linda R. Sutton, MBA, Business Consultant
Linda R. Sutton, a native of Chester, Nebraska, returned home to help small businesses in her former rural community. Linda is an employee of Wichita State University and accepted the newly created position with the Kansas Small Business Development Center in June 2003 to begin helping small businesses in 11 counties of North Central Kansas.
Linda earned her M.B.A. from the University of Denver after receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and Computer Science from Nebraska Wesleyan University. She has extensive international experience working for Riverwood International, now Graphic Packaging International, in both Europe and Asia/Pacific.
Linda was hired out of the DU Graduate Program by Johns Manville Corporation. She worked at the parent company in Denver, Colorado until she was transferred to their sister company Manville Forest Products/Riverwood International to evaluate potential overseas businesses that fit their needs. This led to the acquisition of 33 Europe and Asia/Pacific entities. She then was given the responsibility, by the headquarters located in Atlanta, Georgia, to coordinate the financial reporting of all 33 entities from their local currencies into US dollars. After being approached to teach night classes at the International Business College, Linda received her teaching certification. She has also taught night classes for Friends University. In addition to her international experience, Linda has experience as a Corporate Controller in Texas as well as owning her own small business there.
Linda left Texas to return to her hometown after accepting the position with the Small Business Development Center. She always knew she wanted to one day return to the small town she grew up in. Fortunately, the opportunity presented itself with the SBDC to allow Linda to use her education and experience to help her former rural community. In 2007, Linda was named the SBA Women In Business Champion and in 2009 named the Kansas State Star and ASBDC Star Performer.
